Frauke Zabel's practice is often engaged in various collective contexts. She completed her studies with a diploma in Fine Arts and a Master in Art and Mediation at the Akademie der Bildenden Künste München after a guest semester at the USP in São Paulo, Brasil. She is currently pursuing her PhD project at the Akademie der bildenden Künste Wien.
Many of her research based works have developed out of different archived and non-archived materials or the archives themselves. Her interest lies in the transfer and translation between languages, generations, media, times and places in the light of a possible deconstruction of hegemonic readings of history(ies).
